From the Journal Tribune: “A crowd gathered at the Thornton Academy gym Sunday morning for the eighth annual Mary’s Walk. The benefit, named after Mary Kerry Libby, a Saco resident who succumbed to cancer in 1997, has become a community event, drawing walking enthusiasts, as Libby was, and others who simply wish to remember her life.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “A general alarm fire destroyed a large business building and burned out an adjoining 21/2-story unoccupied house at Dunstan Corner on busy U.S. Route One early today. Destroyed in the blazer according to state police were Murray’s drug store, which also contained a sub post office, and a grocery store. No injuries were reported. Some 15-20 lines of hose had to be laid across the highway and police re-routed traffic for several hours.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Alleging that her husband has been guilty of cruel and abusive treatment and has committed various assaults on her, has used violent and threatening and indecent language toward her in the presence of friends and has humiliated her and caused her much discomfort and tried in every to make her life as uncomfortable as he could and even went so far as to order her out of his home with the parting word, never to return again, Mrs. Ernest A.C. Stone, before her marriage, Mary E. Goshen, has brought proceedings for an absolute divorce from her husband, a former member of the Biddeford fire department.”
