BIDDEFORD — Emily Corrales scored a pair of goals to power fourth-seeded University of New England to a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded Salve Regina University in a New England Hockey Conference Championship women’s semifinal Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win propels the Nor’easters into the semifinal round for the first time in the history of the four-year program. UNE (15-8-2) will play next Friday versus an opponent and at a site to be determined. The Seahawks conclude their season with a mark of 10-13-3.

After a scoreless first period, Corrales would give the Nor’easters all the offense they needed, tallying a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the high slot at 8:07 of the second. Kierra Wright and Annie Mullen had assists.

UNE doubled its lead at 5:41 of the third when Mullen scored from a difficult angle. Below the goal line to the right of the cage, Mullen fed the puck towards the crease and it deflected off Seahawk goaltender Jennifer O’Connell into the cage.

Corrales notched her second marker of the afternoon at the 11:18 mark, carrying the puck up the right side and potting a wrist shot from the right circle.

She finished with 28 stops in 57:20 of playing time before giving way to Samantha Scobee, who recorded one save the rest of the way.
