From the Journal Tribune: “An inmate died Tuesday night at York County Jail, allegedly at the hands of another inmate during a fight in one of the jail’s housing units. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said authorities are calling the death of Luis Martinez, 31, of Lynn, Mass., a homicide.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Biddeford voters turned out in record numbers for referendum voting yesterday as they cast their ballots in favor of Sunday liquor sales. 4,525 to 911. Ward 3 gave the wets the highest margin with 634 more affirmative votes and Ward 7 revealed the closest with a 325 vote difference. Ward 1 counters finished first and officials made it return at 8:45 p.m. The last ward to have its return recorded with the city clerk was Ward 3 shortly after 9 p.m.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “It was the coldest morning of the winter. About town thermometers were from 5 to 10 below zero. So far as learned the coldest place in either city was at the Palmers Bros. on the Boom Road in Saco, where at 4:30 this morning the glass registered at 16 below, while at 6 o’clock it was 21 below.”
