Nine local basketball teams qualified for the postseason and some will kick off their quest for the Gold Ball this week.

On the boys’ side, Kennebunk, Massabesic, Old Orchard Beach, Sanford, Thornton Academy and Wells all made the postseason.

The Old Orchard Beach, Thornton Academy and Wells girls also secured playoff spots.

The Kennebunk boys will kick off postseason play on Tuesday when the ninth-seeded Rams travel to No. 8 Marshwood for a Class A South preliminary game. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start.

The OOB boys will host a Class C South prelim game on Wednesday. The No. 7 Seagulls will welcome in No. 10 Monmouth for a 7 p.m. game.

In the Class B South, the No. 5 Wells Warriors will receive a first-round bye and will face No. 4 Lincoln on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

In Class AA, the Massabesic boys earned the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Scarborough on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

Sanford earned the fifth seed in Aa and will face No. 4 South Portland at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Portland Expo.

Thornton Academy earned the No. 1 seed in the Class AA South boys tournament and will face the winner of South Portland and Sanford in the semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

On the girls side of things, the No. 9 OOB girls will be the first to take the court as they visit No. 8 Searsport in a Class C South prelim on Tuesday.

The TA girls, who are the No. 4 seed in the Class AA South field, will battle No. 5 Bonny Eagle Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

In Class B action, the Wells girls come in as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Lincoln Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Portland Expo.
