From the Journal Tribune: “A high-speed car chase resulted in two accidents in the city Saturday afternoon, injuring four people and resulting in an arrest. According to police department officials, the first accident occurred at the intersection of North Street and Route 1 after a routine traffic stop was made by two patrol officers at 1:19 p.m.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Richard Farnsworth Jr., son of Richard Farnsworth of Kennebunk, who graduated from the University of Maine Orono Jan. 22 with a B.S. degree in Education, has accepted a teaching position in physical education at Sanford High School. He had been doing his practice teaching at Bangor High School.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Joseph Jackson, Peter Valis and Louis Pulos, convicted of murder, were sentenced to life imprisonment at Thomaston in the superior court today. Alexander McRea, indicated jointly with Jackson for the murder of William E. St. John, a watchmen, and one of the state’s witnesses against Jackson, changed his plea of not guilty of the murder change and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was sentenced to serve from 10 to 20 years with a recommendation that he serve the maximum.”
