
The board usually meets 11 times each year and the Annual Membership Meeting is in mid-January. The SMMC is a 501c-6, tax-exempt organization supported by members’ dues, sponsorships and event income.
At this year’s Annual Meeting “The Big Night Out” the following people were elected to the board of directors to serve a three-year term: Ross Nova (L.L. Bean), Michelle Curtis (Bar Harbor Bank & Trust), Nick Favreau (Bath Iron Works and Midcoast Edge), Jake Korb, (Main Street Bath), Paul Clark IV (Morton Real Estate), Andrew Sturgeon, (Hoyle, Tanner & Associates), Dan Chuhta, (RSVU 75) and Eric London (Bath Iron Works).
Elected to serve a second three-year term were Kevin Clark (Sitelines) and Brandon Hussey (The Brunswick Hotel & Tavern), and elected to serve an unexpired term was Joe Grant (Mid Coast- Parkview Health).
Officers of the chamber for 2016 are Matt Barbour, McLeod/Ascanio (chairman); Amanda Leland, Long Cove Builders (first vice chair), Kevin Clark, Sitelines (second vice chair), Bob Langworthy, Management Accounting in New England (treasurer), and Barbara Rapoza, Servpro of Bath-Brunswick (secretary).
One of the primary responsibilities of a nonprofit board is to determine the mission of the organization and then to review it to ensure that mission clearly states the organization’s goals, means and primary constituents served. Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber’s mission is to champion the growth, success and quality of life in our region.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
• The first Chamber After Hours networking event of the year is Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the new Residence Inn by Marriott located at 139 Richardson St. in Bath.
• The 12 @ 12 Member Networking Lunch is Feb. 2, noon to 1 pm. The program is sponsored by Wild Oats Bakery & Café and is by invitation only. Contact the chamber for invitation and also to register for other events.
OUR MEMBERS: The new year starts out with another new member: Kimberly Doughty of New York Life Insurance. Our members are located in and around these communities: Arrowsic, Bath, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Brunswick, Dresden, Edgecomb, Georgetown, Harpswell, Phippsburg, Richmond, Topsham, West Bath, Westport Island, Wiscasset and Woolwich.
