From the Journal Tribune: “The town of Wells is looking at whether it could provide one of those venerable American traditions on July 4: Fireworks. But in a meeting between town officials, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the issue was complicated by the consideration of the little beach bird with a lot of federal protection: The piping plover.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Notification has been received by Town Clerk Barbara Lord regarding fishing licenses for residents who are 70 years old or over. All persons who have reached this age and are Maine residents may obtain resident fishing licenses without charge. This will become affective on Sept. 3, 1965.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Sheriff Frank M. Irving, who is in attendance at the January term of supreme court at Saco, left on the 9 o’clock train this morning for Kittery in response to a summons in connection with a shooting case. Edward Greenwood, aged 50, proprietor of the Piscataqua house at Kittery, shot his wife, Grace, who is 45 years of age, at 12:30 this morning, following an altercation in her room and then went to his own and put a bullet through his head. It is said that the woman has a chance of recovery. Greenwood died today at the hospital in Portsmouth.”
