HARPSWELL — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said 15 students from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham were on board a school bus when it was struck by a car in Harpswell on Thursday afternoon.

No students were injured and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.

Lt. Kerry Joyce said the bus, which was driven by 54-year-old Yvonne Elwell of Topsham, was making a left turn from Harpswell Islands Road onto Cundy’s Harbor Road when a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by 52-year-old Rebecca Nichols of Harpswell made a right turn and drifted across the center line.

Nichols’ car struck the school bus behind the driver’s area. There was minimal damage to both the bus and car.

The accident was reported at 2:56 p.m.
