The Mayflower II has been undergoing restoration since 2013 in Plymouth, Massachusetts and Mystic, Connecticut since 2013.
University of Kentucky forestry professor Terry Conners will discuss the challenges in finding suitable timber for the historic restoration, at a talk scheduled for noon on Nov. 19 at Mather Auditorium at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm.
Conners, who has scoured the eastern seaboard for the past several years sourcing large diameter white oak for the restoration, says projects such as the Mayflower provide an opportunity to reintroduce very long-term forest management objectives to landowners, loggers and wood processors.
Suggested donation is $2 per person. Bring your bag lunch and meet in the Mather Auditorium. This program is co-sponsored by Forest Works! and Wells Reserve at Laudholm.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
