WASHINGTON (AP) — A person familiar with the case says the top military aide to Defense Secretary Ash Carter has been fired because of an improper relationship with an adult colleague.
The person wasn’t authorized to discuss the case openly and spoke Friday on condition of anonymity.
Carter cited allegations of misconduct in the sudden firing on Thursday of Army Lt. Gen. Ron Lewis and referred the matter to the Defense Department’s inspector general.
Defense officials would not provide any details about why Lewis was removed from his job. A senior defense official says Carter learned of the allegations Tuesday night and later informed the inspector general. The senior official says Carter met Thursday with Lewis.
