A Westbrook School Committee race decided by seven votes will be the subject of a recount.

Results from Tuesday’s election showed challenger Steven Berry beating incumbent Ward 1 school board member Alex Stone, 277-270 – a difference of just over 1 percent.

There were also 45 ballots counted as blank, which may mean that they were filled out incorrectly and discounted by the voting machine. If the intent of the voter can be determined upon inspection, those ballots could count as votes for the candidates.

The recount will be held Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. at Westbrook City Hall, said City Clerk Angela Holmes.

Berry, 53, is a longtime parent-teacher organization member and political newcomer.

Stone, 42, a recruiter, has served on the School Committee for the past eight years.
