From the Journal Tribune: “The third shift at WestPoint Stevens is being eliminated as of Monday, Oct. 31, employees have been told. The entire third shift, regularly scheduled from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., has been laid off, leaving 60 employees without jobs just before the holiday season.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “(Saco) Mayor Paul E. Reny today stated his support for referendum question 6, concering the establishment of a regional vocational education center in York County. Mayor Reny pointed out the increasing difficulties of local industries in obtaining skilled workers in this area.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Jeremiah Towne of Kennebunkport was in a rather exciting accident some days ago when his team was struck by an automobile while he was driving near the Coles Hill section. Mr. Towne’s horse was so badly injured that he had to be killed and Mr. Towne himself sustained painful injuries, it being reported that his nose was broken.”
