From the Journal Tribune: “(Sanford) took a step along its way to becoming a ‘Blue Ribbon’ community with a vibrant downtown plan, which might include a new and different Mid-Town Mall and renovated mills bursting with quaint shops and highly-coveted living space. On Tuesday, Connecticut development consultants Bartram and Cochran unveiled a vision for downtown.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Relocation of the Boston and Maine Railroad tracks which go through the center of (Old Orchard Beach’s) business district will be studied by a four-man advisory committee. Last night, the town council apppointed Jerome G. Plante, clerk of the Maine House of Representatives, chairman of the committee which is to report its findings in the next 30 days.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Lewis Nodelman who runs a second hand furniture store on Water street in this city, was arrested Monday evening by officer George H. Piper on complaint of Mrs. Nodelman who complained that her husband had assaulted her when she objected to his gambling with some men at a house on Water street. After the man had been locked in a cell Mrs. Nodelman called on Chief of Police Stone and made charges that her husband was spending his money on gambling and did not support the family.”
