MPTC hosts
annual fundraiser
Westbrook’s My Place Teen Center will host the 2015 Fund-A-Kid Celebration and Awards this Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. The event is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.
The event will feature hors d’oeuvres and sweet treats from the Frog and Turtle Gastro Pub, a cash bar with beer and wine, musical entertainment by Uke ‘n’ Smile, and a live auction with WCSH-6 TV anchor Cindy Williams and Richie “The Ax” Axelsen.

Historical society
to meet Oct. 7
Westbrook Historical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. The program will about immigrants.
One lane on
Stroudwater Street
A section of Stroudwater Street will be down to single-lane traffic Oct. 5-9 during a sewer line replacement project. The section is roughly 1,000 feet, and runs between the armory and William Clarke Drive. The Westbrook Police Department is recommending motorists travel alternate routes during those days.
According to Eric Dudley, Westbrook’s director of public services, there have been issues with the sewer line in the past, which have caused sinkholes.
Campbell to
entertain seniors
Westbrook Senior Citizens will hear singer Bob Campbell when the group meets at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. The seniors are planning a trip to Indian Head in Lincoln, N.H., on Sunday, Dec. 6. For more information, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.
Absentee ballots
can be requested
Westbrook voters can now submit requests for absentee ballots for the election to be held on Tuesday Nov, 3. Requests are due by Thursday, Oct. 29. Voters can choose to cast their absentee ballot by submitting it to the City Clerk via mail, or by voting in the presence of the City Clerk at City Hall. To obtain a copy of the request form, visit www.westbrookmaine.com or visit City Hall at 2 York St., Westbrook. City Hall will stay open late, from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday Oct. 29, for voter registration and absentee voting. ‘Tea for Two’
The Westbrook Woman’s Club meeting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., will have a “Tea for Two” theme.
“In old-fashion tea party garb, come, bring a guest and enjoy the fun,” Marian Sturtevant, spokeswoman for the club, said in an announcement. “Wear a hat and win a prize.”
Sturtevant said hat prizes would be awarded for the prettiest, funniest and most creative.
Majorie Goodwin, president of G.F.W.C. of Maine, will be a special guest.
Food addicts
group to meet
Food Addicts in Recovery (FA) will meet Monday, Oct. 19, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Larrabee Village Administration Building, 30 Liza Harmon Drive, in Westbrook.
“Free yourself from food addiction and food obsession, under-eating and bulimia. FA is holding a free information session to share experience, strength and hope to those who suffer from food addiction, including family and friends,” the organization said in an announcement.

The Westbrook-Gorham Rotary and Falmouth Rotary Club present a check for $3,500 to My Place Teen Center on Sept. 15. The money will be utilized for the completion of a remodeled kitchen and dining area to serve up to as many as 567 children from Westbrook and surrounding communities.
