WELLS — In late August, Hannaford in Wells donated and delivered 700 bottles of water, plus granola bars, first aid items, paper towels, blankets and hand sanitizer to Wells Elementary School to help restock the school’s emergency kits.

According to WES Assistant Principal Ken Spinney, these kits are placed in each classroom throughout the school for use in the event of an emergency requiring a school lockdown. The water and other items have to be replaced at the start of each school year to maintain freshness.

“We are so fortunate to have community partners such as Hannaford to support our schools,” said Spinney. “For several years, Hannaford, Wells Urgent Care, McDonalds, and the IGA have donated either water and/or food items, cups, plus other things to assist us with student safety and the work we do with children.”

Those helping to unload the water and other supplies on Aug. 24th were WES custodians Richard Libby and Jim Cumback, as well as Wells Hannaford Store Manager David Couture and Store Assistant Manager Erin Ryan. Spinney later dispersed all of the newly donated items into the lockdown kits.

“They say ‘it takes a village’ to provide our children with a quality education and we are appreciative for all of our community partners who consistently support us,” said Spinney.
