From the Journal Tribune: “Ten citizens spoke in favor of a plan to close the Maine Energy Recovery Company incinerator, taking up nearly an hour of the City Council’s time to voice their concerns Tuesday. On Nov. 8, Biddeford and Saco citizens are expected to vote on whether to approve separate $10 million bonds toward a proposed buy-out of the plant.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “The Biddeford City Council decided to bond over a 15-year period a $250,000 debt left over from previous administrations at a meeting last night. Mayor Edward F. Gaulin explained that the council had the choice of renewing the debt by taking another short term note in November to cover Decemember expenses or bonding it off over a 15-year period at a savings of at least one percent in interest.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Among other things considered by the city fathers at a rather busy meeting last night, was the matter of pop-corn stands, a request having been made by Fred Valliere for a permit to locate a stand at the corner of Main and Alfred streets, next to the new Hill block. The request was referred to a committee.”
