Fall Library Events
Attend a free movie in the Gray Public Library’s new “theater.” Upcoming showings include: Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m., “Mad Max Fury Road” (R); Thursday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., “Age of Adaline” (PG-13); Saturday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m., “Cinderella” (2015 version) (PG); Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m., “Love and Mercy” (PG-13); Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m., “Rocky Horror Picture Show, 40th Anniversary Special,” (R).
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m., Gray Public Library welcomes Marilyn Weymouth Seguin, author of “Hidden History of the Sebago Lakes Region.” Quirky characters and surprising events have shaped a robust community history throughout the Lakes Region. Free and open to all. Books will be available for purchase.
A few days later on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m., the library will welcome back author Kate Braestrup. Kate is a community minister, law enforcement chaplain, and the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir, “Here If You Need Me.” She will be reading and discussing her newest book “Anchor and Flares: A Memoir of Motherhood, Hope, and Service.” Free and open to all. Books will be available for purchase. Presented by the Pat Barter Speaker Series.
The Gray Library is pleased to present the Blu-Ray Pure Audio edition of Queen’s classic album “A Night at the Opera” on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Experience this rock masterpiece in 5:1 surround sound at 256 times the clarity of a regular CD.
Come on in and see the works of featured artist Wendy Newbold Patterson, the most recent artist featured at Gray Public Library’s New Boston Gallery.

Touch a Truck
A hands-on “Touch a Truck” Fair for kids of all ages will be sponsored by Gray Shop ’n’ Save on Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Gray Plaza from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (rain or shine). Families can explore multiple kinds of vehicles and modes of transportation. Face painting, raffles, food, drinks and fun will be provided. This is a free event with donations happily accepted for the Gray Community Food Pantry.
Kids Concert
On Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Maine Wildlife Park, on Route 26 in Gray, from 11 a.m.-noon, Rick Charette of Windham will perform in concert. As a singer and songwriter, Charette has been capturing the hearts and spirits of young and old alike with his delightful and inspiring children’s songs. Many songs performed will be about Maine’s wild animals. He will sign autographs and sell CDs after the show. Rain or shine. See www.rickcharette.com for more information. Cemetery Tour
A Gray Village Cemetery Tour takes place on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m. This tour introduces Bartlett Adams, Portland’s first stone carver and a renowned stone-cutter of Maine. In business from 1800 to 1828, Bartlett’s shop produced more than 1,700 stones found throughout Maine, including the Gray Village Cemetery. Tour docent Ron Romano, from Eastern Cemetery’s Spirits Alive tours, will acquaint you with the man, his times, and show numerous examples of the precise and elegant hand carving of Bartlett Adams’ shop. Tours will begin at the Gray Historical Society, 1 Main St. (Old Fire Barn in Gray Center). The museum will be open during tour hours. Admission is free but donations are requested ($5 suggested) which benefit the Gray Historical Society, Gray Public Library and Gray Cemetery Association. No rain date.
Egypt Road Delays
Egypt Road will be closed to one lane until Sept. 30. Maine DOT will be replacing the culvert at Egypt Road and Westwood Road.
Road construction at the intersection of Upper Marginal Way and Portland Road is scheduled to start on Sept. 15 and is expected to take three to four weeks for project completion. Expect delays and plan travel accordingly.
Zumba for Kids
Zumba for Kids starts Sept. 22, 3:30 p.m., at the Newbegin Community Center Gym taught by a certified instructor from our community. Zumba Kids and Zumba Kids Jr. classes are designed exclusively for kids (ages 4-9 and 5-11 respectively) to combine movement, music and community in a class for both boys and girls.
