Who could have seen Donald Trump leading all the other Republican candidates running to be president? Trump is about as much as a Republican as I am a Democrat. But what I love about him running proves that Americans are sick and tired of lifetime politicians sucking our tax dollars for their own existence.
That’s exactly what I think of when I look at those who represent Maine in Washington, D.C., and why it has become the cesspool that it is. I will certainly vote for him if he is the Republican candidate and either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders is the Democratic candidate. If Trump fails to make it, then my wife and I might just leave the United States. Then there are those times that I see the same thing happening in Augusta or even Windham as well.
What I feel is funny about Donald Trump running for president is that he has nothing to lose. The candidates of either political parties have to follow their parties to some degree and therefore all they give is useless political speeches that in the end mean nothing. Obviously we still have many problems in this country like illegal aliens and the huge national debt, which all politicians proclaim they will fix and yet none have. I am not saying Trump will do any better but maybe there is a chance he will, and I believe that is why he is still doing good in the polls.
With the exception of Trump I see no difference in the presidential race than that of those who are running for mayor of Portland. Maybe Trump’s popularity is based on the voter apathy of voting for candidates who have done nothing after promising everything for everybody.
But just maybe it might be some of the things that Trump is saying that are resonating with disgruntled voters all across this country. It is my personal belief that the United States of America is at one of the lowest points in its history, which is something I didn’t believe could happen under only one president. It is not only the fact that our government pretends to protect us by spying on all of us all of the time, it is placing even more regulations on businesses of all kinds while taxing them at the highest rate on the entire planet. Cities are now placing higher minimum wages on businesses without regard if those businesses can even afford the additional costs of those wage increases. Of course the offshoot of that is those people who want to get paid higher wages for doing nothing are going to support a socialist like Bernie Sanders for president.
Maybe the disenchanted voters like the messages that Donald Trump is making as he campaigns. Three of the messages I hear in the news make more sense than the nonsense that all the other candidates from all parties make in their political speeches proclaiming how great they are. Take Trump’s message of taking back this country. I couldn’t agree more. Follow the law. Let’s see, we have a former U.S. Attorney General and a member of the Internal Revenue Service (Lois Lerner) held in contempt of Congress, punishable under our laws and yet nothing has been done. But maybe his message of making America great again is the biggest statement that any politician has made.
Do I think he will be the Republican candidate for president? In the end I really hope that he isn’t because it is more than obvious he can buy his own way to be president. It is sad to state that when I look at all the other candidates there is not one I could truly support. Maybe that says something about American politics, and politicians as well. When a woman comes to this country just to have a baby in order to stay here, she definitely had an anchor baby.
Lane Hiltunen of Windham does not believe in the term of being called politically correct. That’s for political morons.
