When 90-year-old John Patrick Wirtz of Cape Elizabeth died last month, he didn’t leave the task of writing his obituary to a friend or relative. He had already done it himself. And it’s wonderful.

On July 27, 2015, at the age of 90, John Patrick Wirtz, (yours truly) departed this earthly realm to be reunited, through a benevolent Lord, with my dearest Mimi who went on ahead of me on May 7, 2009.

Neither Mimi nor I have any immediate family. And, rather than impose on others, like close friend Michael Sweatt, to write an obituary, I thought I’d do it myself while assumedly still having all my marbles…
