BALDWIN — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office deputies suspect alcohol was involved in a single-car crash in Baldwin on Wednesday evening that sent one man to the hospital with serious but non-life-threating injuries.

Sheriff Kevin Joyce said 36-year-old Stephen Gammon of Cornish was driving a 2001 Saturn sedan on Route 5 – also known as Depot Road – when he crossed the center line, overcorrected, and the car slid sideways off the road and into a tree.

Gammon had to be extricated from the wreckage. He was taken by Standish Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

No charges have been filed.

The crash was reported at 8:13 p.m.
