These grants are funded by fees from the Maine Agriculture license plates. Turcotte plans to focus on farm-to-table field trips and food preparation lessons in her curriculum this year. “We’ll learn about hydroponics, visit a mussel farm, watch cheese being made, and use fruit leather from local blueberries in a dessert,” Turcotte said. “As future chefs in area restaurants, our students need to understand the importance of Maine agricultural products in menu planning and preparation.”
