MESSAGE FROM THE CHAMBER: Here’s a fun, but useful, segment from “The Wickedly Fun Dictionary of Business.” Use it when dealing with customers, partners and colleagues.

Personalities, n.pl. Basically four types (see Analytical, Driver, Expressive, Amiable personalities). If you can learn to read them, it’s as close to mind reading as you’ll get. You’ll know how long they take to make decisions, how much information to give them, if they want to do all the talking, if they like small talk, and even how they’ll try to impress you.

For example, if you read just the first line in this definition and moved on to the next definition — you’re a Driver. Too many words, too much detail. (And you’re not even reading this far to see that you’re being made fun of.)

If you’re still reading this, you’re an Analytical. You need more words, more explanations, more detail. But I’m not giving them to you. I’m going now. Don’t follow.
