LePage Out of Line at Legion
Call me disappointed that the Governor took advantage of his time at the podium at the American Legion Post 20’s building dedication to blast his political opponents. First Amendment rights or not, it was an inappropriate time and place to do so.

Peace Fair a Joyous Event
Ten years ago my husband and I retired to Maine, drawn by its beauty and, in particular, by Brunswick’s quality of life. We have experienced both in abundance, and Saturday’s Peace Fair on the Mall epitomized the latter. I was fortunate to spend the day there as a volunteer, and from the moment I arrived I was swept into what felt like the reunion of a very large and happy family.
Every day we are assaulted with news of the pain and cruelty rampant in the world, but we rarely have the opportunity to celebrate among the many people working toward a world where well- fed children, loved and accepted as themselves, cavort across a peaceful and healthy planet.
Saturday provided that celebration and a microcosm of that world. It was joyous.

Enough! Pave My Road
What do you have to do in Brunswick in order to have your street paved?
I’ve lived on this street 35 years, and it was paved 30 years ago. It’s cracked, has pot holes and is falling apart on the sides.
I’ve talked to the town council, public works, town manager and my select person over a period of two months. I’ve been told it would be another five years before it would be paved. In the meantime, Maquoit Road, Woodside from Arrow Hart toward Pleasant Hill will be done. Also, Thompson Street, part of River Road, Harpswell Road and Garrision Street are all taken care of. I’ve traveled these roads and believe none are as bad as Westminster Avenue (and when were they done last?) It seems the town doesn’t consider Westminster an important street in Brunswick, but have they considered safety? I wonder how important our street would be if we didn’t pay property taxes.
Even a town employee who has closed the street stated he couldn’t believe the street hasn’t completely fallen apart. Seems when the town is only concerned with the businesses in town and the roads they feel are more important than Westminster.
