Boathouse Beach, Biddeford’s only city-owned beach, is pictured recently with far less seaweed blanketing the sand than earlier this month. When large amounts of seaweed washed up on the beach in late June, many residents and tourists complained to city officials, who then applied for a permit with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to remove the seaweed. Although the tides have for the most part washed the seaweed off of the beach, City Manager John Bubier said this week that the city continues to seek a DEP permit to address dune damage caused by the storm.
