OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Surge (8-17) edged the Road City Explorers (18-10) by a final score of 5-4 on Thursday night at The Ballpark.
Road City took a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single from Derrick Pyles.
The Surge offense woke up in the fifth, with RBI singles by both Tucker White and Jacob Fabry giving OOB a 2-1 lead.
The Explorers tied it back up in the sixth, with a run scored by Joel Almonte.
A double for Carlos Valdez in the seventh gave the Surge the lead. Fabry made it home on a passed ball, making it 4-2.
Carlos Marquez got the Explorers back within one with an RBI double. That ended the night for Surge starter Eddie Medina, who went 7 2/3 innings, striking out nine, walking one and allowing six hits.
White knocked in an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double. He finished with two RBIs and a run scored.
The Explorers tried to rally back, with an RBI from Bryan Hoover, but they weren’t able to complete the rally.
