Chicken Barbecue

The second annual New Gloucester Veterans Monument Chicken Barbecue will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 11, at Amvets Post 6, 1095 Lewiston Road, beginning at noon and continuing until the food is sold out. The meal includes chicken, cole slaw, dinner roll, chips, beverages and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard.

The Berry, Berry Good Band will perform. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under age 12. Proceeds benefit the maintenance of the New Gloucester Veterans Monument.

Amvets Dance

Amvets Post 6, 1095 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester, is sponsoring a public dance from 7-11 p.m., Saturday, July 11. The admission charge is $15 per couple, $8 single, B.Y.O.B. Classic country songs will be performed by Steve and the Good Ol’ Boys. Call George Hinckley at 739-0898 for more information.

Flea Market

Amvets Post 6 Auxiliary will be hosting their annual Flea Market on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the post home, 1095 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester. New and used items, unique crafts and collectibles will be available. The event will be held rain or shine.

Table rentals are available for $15 each. Call Joyce at 926-4693 or Sally at 926-3371 to reserve your table for this event. Proceeds will benefit the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary’s yearly projects. A baked goods table will benefit their scholarship fund.

Tractors and Trucks

Children of all ages are welcome to learn all about the types of machinery used at Pineland Farms to feed and care for their animals at the farm. This family education program takes place from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 21.

Town Recreational Programs

Gymnastics/Cheering camp is going to be held at the Memorial School, 86 Intervale Road, New Gloucester, Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24. Beginner gymnastics will run from 9-9:55 a.m. and Intermediate/Advanced Beginner will run from 10-10:55 a.m. The Diamond Cheer camp will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost for these camps is $32 for gymnastics and $52 for cheering. The deadline for registering is Thursday, July 16, at 4 p.m.

Back to Basics Soccer Camp for children ages 4-8 will be held at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds, 106 Bald Hill Road. This program will run on Thursdays from July 16 through Aug. 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Participants will be concentrating on learning basic skills, sportsmanship and teamwork. The cost of the program is $21 per child.

Funtown/Splashtown combination passes are being offered for $27 (regular price is $36) and Aquaboggan Water Park general tickets for $15 (regular price is $20). Discount tickets are available at the Town office, 385 Intervale Road, New Gloucester.

Green Cleaning Products Workshop

Green Cleaning Products Workshop is offered at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, 707 Shaker Road, New Gloucester, on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Throughout the 1800s, Shaker Sisters kept recipe books to make useful household products, many from natural ingredients. Participants in this workshop will make and take home several herbal cleaning products made from all-natural ingredients that are commonly found in the household. Clean and sanitize your home with satisfying, affordable, eco-friendly products that are safe for your family and pets. Learn to make great products at a fraction of the price for your home and as great gifts.
