WELLS — A police cruiser parked in the median of I-95 was struck and totaled on Saturday by a driver that was later charged with operating under the influence.
The two police officers, Dylan McNally, 21, and Thomas Kinney, 27, were treated at the scene.
At around 2:30 a.m., State Police received reports that a vehicle was driving southbound erratically from Kennebunk and asked for assistance from Wells Police, who positioned their vehicle in the median of the highway.
Anthony Menici, 33, of Charlestown, Massachusetts, drifted across all three lanes as he approached the officers when he suddenly veered into the median and struck the cruiser, causing it to flip and come to a halt in the northbound passing lane of I-95.
Menici was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center and treated for injuries sustained in the crash, and was additionally charged with driving to endanger and possession of Suboxone. Both vehicles were destroyed.
