WATERBORO — Massabesic got a strong performance on the mound and some clutch hitting late in the game as the local Legion squad picked up a 6-5 walk-off win over Staples Crossing.
Andrew Wicklund tossed a complete game and gave up just one earned run on six hits to pick up the win for Massabesic.
Wicklund earned the victory thanks to a seventh-inning rally by his teammates. Trailing 5-4 heading into the inning, Derek Coulombe drew a walk, Dawson Renaud singled and Sean Adams reached on a fielder’s choice to start the frame. Caleb Burpee would tie the game with a single and Weston Gergeron won the game with a RBI hit, which brought home Adams.
Burpee added an RBI triple in the fourth and Renaud singled home Matt Allen, who doubled, in the fifth inning. Burpee also drove in a run in the fifth.
