BOWDOIN
A special town meeting has been scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the town office, so residents can vote on two ordinances that were tabled at the annual March town meeting.
The two ordinances were tabled because the town didn’t properly advertise the meeting in local newspapers.
The first is a state mandated, revised shoreland zoning ordinance and the second is the new floodplain management ordinance voters would be looking to adopt which incorporate state and federal updates, including new map data.
Adoption of the floodplain management ordinance allows the town to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program, which provides protection to residents who may be affected by flooding. Also, federal flood insurance is available to those who have federally backed mortgages in the floodplain, and the community is eligible for disaster funding and low interest loans when the county is in a declared disaster area.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
