Gallery 302 at 112 Main St. in Bridgton welcomes mixed-media artist Maya Kuvaja with a reception Friday, June 26, from 5-7 p.m. Her work will be on exhibit through July 16 at the Gallery.

Born in Boston, raised in coastal Maine, graduating from Maine College of Art, Maya now resides in Bridgton. She is a recipient of a Maine Arts Commission grant, and her work is exhibited frequently in New England and included in many private collections.

Kuvaja’s work often explores the complex relationship between humans and the natural world. Her current series is inspired by the literary movement of Magical Realism and the long human tradition of visual storytelling.

“Here I explore the moment at which myth, science, nature, industry and religion come together in human consciousness creating a new multi-layered narrative,” she said.

Incorporated within her mixed-media paintings are image transfers, dry media drawings, oil glazes and opaque paint in a process that overlaps diverse techniques and images.

For those intrigued by Maya’s process, there will be a demonstration of her varied techniques at Gallery 302 on Sunday, July 12, at 1 p.m.
