OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Surge recently signed three new players to contracts, including a former member of the OOB Raging Tide and a former major league prospect.
The Surge signed infielder Skip Flanagan, who previously played for the Raging Tide, which was a collegiate summer league team in OOB that folded after last season.
Surge General Manager Alex Markakis also signed former New York Yankees prospect Yeicok Calderon. The 23-year-old outfielder hit 45 home runs during his time with the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate.
The Surge also locked up right-handed pitcher Zachary Leitten, who went to Mercyhurst College and has played for several independent minor league clubs.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
