SANFORD — The municipal government and the school government both have new budgets for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Just a handful of voters ”“ 672 ”“ out of the 13,305 people eligible to cast ballots turned out for the June 9 school and municipal budget validation votes.

The school budget is $36.3 million; the municipal budget, $23.2 million, plus county tax.

The municipal budget was approved 419-251.

The school budget was approved 420-251 in unofficial totals released by the town clerk Tuesday night.

Passage of the budgets means the potential impact on the tax rate is 44 cents. While that could change depending on valuations, a 44-cent increase would mean someone with a home valued at $160,000, considered the average in Sanford, would pay $70 more in property tax in the coming year.
