AUGUSTA (AP) — Officials from Maine’s public universities and community colleges have signed an agreement that will make it easier for students to transfer credits between schools.
Students at any of the 14 public universities or community colleges in Maine will be able to transfer up to 35 credits of their general education requirements for full credit at another institution within the two systems. Community college students who transfer to a university will also be able to move their credits back to a community college to finish their degree.
UMaine System Chancellor James Page and Maine Community College President Derek Langhauser signed the agreement Monday at the University of Maine at Augusta.
Students have long been able to transfer some credits, but officials say the process is complicated and inefficient.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
