A fire that broke out Tuesday evening in a nursing home in South Portland was quickly brought under control by firefighters.

Lt. Robb Couture said the fire department got a call for assistance at 7 p.m. from the staff at the South Portland Nursing Home, at 42 Anthoine St.

Couture said crews quickly knocked down the fire, which started in a light/fan fixture in the ceiling of a bathroom near the lobby.

No injuries were reported, and the residents of the home were moved to a safe area of the building while crews put the fire out.
