The Maine Department of Corrections on Wednesday confirmed the death of a prisoner of the Maine Correctional Center in Windham.

According to Department of Corrections spokesman Scott Fish, Harold Frederick Gleason, 67, of Aroostook County, died at about 9 p.m., June 2, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Consistent with the department policy and the Attorney General’s Office protocols, the state police and the medical examiner’s office were notified. Both are reviewing the death, Fish said.

At the time of his death, Gleason was serving a split 20-year sentence with all but seven years suspended for unlawful sexual contact and gross sexual assault. Gleason was sentenced Aug. 6, 2013. He was scheduled for release on Nov. 18, 2018, at which time he would have begun 99 years of probation, Fish said.
