OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Local resident Lorje Salamonski is starting a local scouting group open to anyone, regardless of their walk-of-life.
Salamonski is organizing a local Baden-Powell Service Association, or BPSA group.
The local group is tentatively called the 1653rd Maine Lobster, and will be recruiting for three children’s group and an adult group. BPSA is an independent and traditional style scouting association that perpetuates the principles and practices of scouting laid down by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907.
Anyone willing to do their best to live by the scout law and promise and actively participate in the program may join, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or faith. All adult leaders must abide by the organization’s code of ethics, participate in formal trainings and pass a background check.
“I’m excited to be part of the BPSA because it offers a choice for those with curiosity, energy and independence of spirit. I have a disability, so BPSA’s inclusive mission really appealed to me. I’m really hoping to meet some like-minded people, get outdoors and help our community,” he said.
Those interested in collaborating with Salamonski to start a local BPSA group can attend an informational session at the Edith Belle Libby Memorial Library, 27 Staples St., Tuesday, June 2 from 6-8 p.m.
