For the second time in less than a week, Art’s Variety on Spring Street in Westbrook was robbed.

According to Westbrook police Capt. Michael Nugent, a white male suspect entered the store on Friday, May 29, at 9:34 a.m. and demanded money and cigarettes. No weapon was displayed and he fled with cash and cigarettes.

A description of the suspect and his vehicle was immediately broadcast, and within minutes officers spotted a car and driver matching the description on the Westbrook Arterial.

Nugent said officers initiated a felony traffic stop and arrested Shawn L. Boivin, 32, of Dragonfly Lane in Gorham, on charges of robbery and theft. Boivin was in possession of the stolen cash and cigarettes, Nugent said. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail where he is being held in lieu of bail.

Nugent said the investigations into Friday morning’s incident and a similar robbery at Art’s Variety on May 23 are ongoing.
