PORTLAND — Portland Public Library will host an exhibition of the NAMES Foundation Memorial AIDS Quilt on June 17 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the library’s Atrium.
The exhibit will also feature Deborah Freedman in the Rines Auditorium at noon, discussing her book “The Quiet Triumph of the Heart: NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt Stories from Maine.”
The quilt, made in 1987 as a way to commemorate those who had died of AIDS, is comprised of more than 44,000 3-by-6-foot panels. It was nominated for the Nobel Peace Price in 1989, and remains the largest community arts project in the world.
