Bean Supper

A baked bean supper will be held on Friday, May 29, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Windham Veterans Center. This is a fundraiser to help maintain the WVC building which is used by dozens of community organizations. The menu includes baked beans, casseroles, including mac and cheese, chop suey, salads, bread, brown bread, biscuits, rolls, pie and beverages. $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Legion Meetings

The American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at the Windham Veterans Center.

On Wednesday, June 3, American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will pause with a sigh of relief from the hectic month of May with a dinner by new Post member, Paul Waterman. Come to the social at 5 p.m. and stay for the 6 p.m. business meeting. New members welcome. Plans will be discussed for the new social and funding season. The Legion meets at Windham Veterans Center, on Memorial Drive off Route 302.

Historical Society Summer Hours

Summer is here and the Windham Historical Society has announced its summer hours: Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday mornings, Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and Saturday mornings until noon. These hours may change, depending on the public. Appointments for research may be made by calling 892-1433 or email at info@windhamhistorical.org. The society has an extensive collection of genealogy books and resources as well as a selection of books, maps and other historical items. Visit the society at the museum located in the original “town hall” located at 234 Windham Center Road. A new “1930-40” kitchen display has been installed, complete with slate sink, old time cooking utensils and appliances. Even an ice box!

‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’

On May 29-31, Windham Center Stage Theater presents “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” directed and choreographed by Jonathan Miele, with musical direction by Patrick Martin. Windham Center Stage Theater, 8 School Road, in the Town Hall. Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday and 4 p.m. Tickets are $12, $10 seniors and students. Plant Sale

The Windham Historical Society is holding its annual spring plant and garden sale on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the society on Windham Center Road. If you have extra plants to donate or want more information, call Susan at 878-3417.

Mayfair

Mayfair at Windham Hill UCC will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Mayfair features a craft show and sale from H.O.M.E. Co-op, plants unlimited, a baked goods sale, gently used furniture, the kickoff of a great raffle, children’s games, a luncheon (hot dogs, sandwiches, mac & cheese, drinks, desserts), and tour of the church.

Bingo at Veterans Center

You are invited to play bingo provided by Standish Memorial Post 128 at the Windham Veterans Center. The fifth season starts in May and continues through October on every Tuesday. Doors are open at 4 p.m. and the Early Bird game starts at 6:10 p.m. with the regular games starting at 6:30 p.m. There are 14 regular games besides the Early Bird game plus the Winner Take All game. Pull Tabs are also available. Partake of refreshments, soft drinks and coffee for sale by the Windham Field Allen Post 148 Auxiliary. Enjoy a relaxing night knowing all proceeds go to benefit veterans and their families.

All about Medicare

On Tuesdays, June 2 and 16, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer Medicare help at the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to noon. Call SMAA to register for a seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 207-396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Theater Group Meets

The Windham Center Stage Theater annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 6:15 p.m. at the Windham Center Stage Theater located in Windham Town Hall. Elections for the 2015-2016 board will take place between 6:15 and 7 p.m.
