PORTLAND — The Thornton Academy doubles team of Katie Senechal and Emily Harris battled their way through a large and talented field to capture the 2015 SMAA Girls Tennis Doubles Championship on Saturday at Deering Oaks Park in Portland.

Senechal and Harris, who were the top seed, had a bye into the second round where they would pick up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Scarborough’s Emily Keenan and Kaicee Flaherty.

The TA duo would then cruise to a 6-3, 6-2 win over South Portland’s Ellen Stanton and Maggie Koukos in the quarterfinals.

In their semifinals match, Senechal and Harris dominated Marshwood’s Sophie Towle and Renee Clavette 6-2, 6-3 to earn a trip to the finals.

The finals match would be the toughest yet for the Trojans as they battled Scarborough’s Bryce Nitchman and Jenny Hermann, who had taken down the second-seed in the semifinals.
