SANFORD — This city’s first aver Art Walk, featuring paintings in oil and watercolor, sculpture, woodworking, pottery, mixed media and more takes place Saturday in the downtown core.
Organizers say 15 downtown storefronts will feature works from 17 artists affiliated with the Sanford Art Association.
”Its wonderful to bring artwork to Sanford and get some excitement going,” said Kathleen King, vice president of the art association. She said the idea came from member Moe Auger last winter, and the association brought the plan to the Sanford Springvale Chamber of Commerce and the folks organizing the Sanford International Film Festival, which also occurs this weekend.
Maps for the art walk may be picked up at The Sanford Art Gallery, 917 Main St. next to City Hall, and the Chamber of Commerce. As well, the map is posted on the SAA webpage at www.sanfordspringvaleart.org, under the “news” tab.
All of the venues are on Main Street and in the Mid-Town Mall, with the exception of works at the Trafton Senior Center on Elm Street, said King.
As well, a 10-foot handcrafted model of the USS Constitution by Don Sterns will be on display in front of Sanford City Hall.
Lime green signs and lime green balloons displayed at all businesses participating in the Art Walk. For more information, contact SAA at 490-0543.
The art walk is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
