Historians to hear Humiston, WW I talk
Buxton-Hollis Historical Society is hosting a military historian who will present a program about World War I at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at the society’s headquarters 100 Main St. (Route 4A), in Bar Mills (Buxton).
Lee Humiston, director and curator of the Maine Military Museum and Learning Center in South Portland, will speak on the topic, “Remembering World War I: It’ll be over by Christmas.” It wasn’t.
“The Buxton-Hollis Historical Society will be recognizing the impact of World War I, which radically challenged the world’s social order, in several different venues,” the society said in a statement. “Mr. Humiston will introduce us to United States military, social, and cultural history from the World War I era by using tangible paraphernalia relating to the ‘Great War.’”
The society welcomes those who attend to take and to share their own personal items relating to the war.
Suggested donations are $10 or $8 for seniors to support ongoing society activities.
