Bob Crowley, the 2008, $1 million winner of the reality TV show “Survivor,” was taken ill Monday and admitted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, his wife said Tuesday.

Crowley has reported weekly for the American Journal on the progress of Gorham’s Dan Foley, a contestant on this season’s “Survivor.” But, Peggy Crowley told the newspaper her husband had been hospitalized and would be unable to attend Foley’s viewing party this week.

She said her husband went to the hospital Monday night and was “uncomfortable” on Tuesday. Further details were not immediately available.

Foley seemed stunned when he heard about Crowley.

“My concerns are with him and his family,” Foley said. “I really hope it’s nothing.”

Crowley, a retired Gorham High School physics teacher who was known for his bow ties, won the $1 million as the sole survivor on the show. He has been a popular and regular figure at Foley’s viewing parties this season and has accommodated fans with photos and autographs.

The Crowleys, former residents of South Portland, live in Durham.
