BIDDEFORD — An Old Orchard Beach man has been charged with murder in the death of Charles Raybine, of Biddeford, who was shot to death in a rental car in the parking lot of Parish Place Apartments, at 41 Birch St., on March 26, 2013.

John Lopez, 20, is the second man to be charged with murder in the death of Raybine, Timothy Feeley, a spokesman for the Maine Attorney General’s Office, confirmed Tuesday.

Just hours after Raybine’s death, Bub Peter Nguany, also of Old Orchard Beach, was arrested for the illegal possession of drugs and a firearm, according to court documents.

Nguany ”“ who matched the description of the shooter given by Raybine’s nephew, who was with him when he was shot ”“ was then charged with murder in June of that year, Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine State Police, said in an email Tuesday.

“The shooting was drug-related,” McCausland added.

Lopez was arrested Tuesday morning at a gas station in Old Orchard Beach, according to McCausland, and he was scheduled to make his first court appearance today at the York County Superior Court in Alfred.

Feeley said Assistant Attorney General Matt Crockett is prosecuting both Lopez and Nguany. Although it’s unclear whether the men will stand trial jointly, he added.

If convicted of murder, each man faces 25 years to life in prison.
