BIDDEFORD TIGERS
Coach/years: Caitlin Albert, fourth year
Last year’s results: 7-5, lost in Western Class A quarterfinals
Key returning players: Seniors Mallory Mourmouras, Hannah Morin-Roy, Olivia Morrison, Jill Sheltra, Emily Boisvert; juniors Camryn McKeown, Taylor Turgeon, Missy Huot; sophomore Bekah Guay
Key newcomers: Freshmen Paige Boudreau, Peyton McKeown, Azure Illiano
Key loss: Katherine Dumoulin
Coach’s outlook: With a good senior base and the loss of only two players from the best season in the young program’s history, the Tigers will return with more depth than ever before. The .500 team from last year returns nine starters, including four-year starters Mourmouras, Morrison, Boisvert and Sheltra. Juniors Turgeon and Huot will be impact players to watch and fellow classman McKeown is now back in the midfield this year after having to sit out last season to a season-ending injury. With the experienced upperclass and a very talented underclass the Tigers are on track to improve with the hopes of having their best season yet.
KENNEBUNK RAMS
Coach/years: Annie Barker, 15th year
Last year’s results: 9-3, lost in Western Class B regional final
Key returning players: Seniors Haley Fecko, Hannah Pepin, Kristen Wiewel, Tiffany Weeks; juniors Jenny Bush, Bella Kudas, Grace Robinson, Katy Ross, Olivia Sanford, Carly Sandler, Kyra Schwartzman
Key losses: Five players graduated
Key newcomers: Molly Parent and Cara Small
Coach’s outlook: We have a group of very solid varsity players returning. We will be looking to rebuild our defense and add the talent of the new players to our varsity squad.
MASSABESIC MUSTANGS
Coach/years: Brooks Bowen, 12th year
Last year’s results: 11-1, won Class A state championship
Key returning players: Defenders, Mira Kuni, Seirra Arral, Madi Russell, Megan Hill; midfielders, Maquila Dimastrantonio, Emma Desrochers; attackers, Karlie Pike, Kenzie Kidder, Delia Sylvain
Key newcomers: Taylor Manning, Madeline Beauchesne, Hannah Duffy, Keilly Lynch
Key losses: Rayne Whitten, Jackie Guillemette, Alexis Foglio, Jolena Lampron
Coach’s outlook: We are excited about our incoming freshman class. We feel there is some raw athleticism and talent in there but will take some time to sort out. Our returners showed up well-conditioned and are leading by example. We were trapped in the gym for much of the preseason and anxious to get outside. We need to see what we can do in space. With every new season there is a period of chemistry building and identity formation, and we are no different. I am comfortable that we have put the success of last year in the history books and are ready to build a new season.
SANFORD SPARTANS
Coach/years: Diana Walker, second year
Last year’s results: 5-7
Key returning players: Liz Helmreich, Brenna Lambert, Maddie Leigh, Kyla Bragg, Monica Traush
Key newcomer: Eva Belanger
Key losses: Courtney Dumont, Emily Salls, Shelby Paiement, Grace Riley
Coach’s outlook: The team is still young, with only three seniors. This is the type of season you hope that a few younger players step it up and start to reach their potential. There seems to be more confidence this year and they have really been working hard during preseason.
THORNTON ACADEMY GOLDEN TROJANS
Coach/years: Craig Agreste, 10th Year
Last year’s results: 9-3, lost in Western Class A regional final
Key returning players: Allie Spinney, Katie McCrum, Lauren Wells, Kailey Dubuque
Key losses: Five players graduated
Coach’s outlook: We return 10 of 12 starters from a team which lost in the Western Maine finals. We open the season with the defending state champions, Massabesic.
WELLS WARRIORS
Coach/years: Jackie Proulx, third year
Last year’s results: 5-7
Key returning players: Seniors, Sydney Robinson, Holly Robinson, Betsy Andrews
Key newcomers: Sophomores, Lauren Dewey, Alyssa Loukola, Aimley Michaud-Nolan
Key losses: Nicki Moody, Amanda DeShaies, Jasmine Loukola
Coach’s outlook: While we do have a lot of newer players on our varsity team this year, all of the girls are aggressive and hardworking individuals. We have key members of the attack and defense returning, and I will be looking to them to lead on the field. A lot of younger players will be stepping up into key roles on the team.
