Westbrook students win College Knowledge Bowl again

Two weeks ago, students from Saccarappa Elementary School took home their second straight first-place prize at the annual Maine College Knowledge Bowl, an event held by the Maine College Circle. This year, the competition was held at Unity College.

According to a press release, the competition is aimed at helping young students develop a better understanding of the opportunity of higher education and gain useful information about college. Westbrook School Department sent three teams representing each elementary school, and while Saccarappa defended its title, both Congin and Canal placed in the top five.

Clark Insurance promotes Trepanier

Melissa Trepanier of Westbrook has been promoted to account manager in the Employee Benefits Group of Clark Insurance.

She will focus on individual health care insurance and small groups. A graduate of Southern Maine Community College, Trepanier has more than 20 years of experience in business administration.

The agency’s employee benefits group has been among the fastest growing segments of the business during the last four years.

Phillippe to entertain seniors

Louis Phillippe will provide the show when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet for a meal at noon on Monday, April 20, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. The seniors will be served baked haddock with crumb topping, potato, peas and Jello with a whipped topping.

The seniors will travel to Lantana’s in Randolph, Mass., on Tuesday, May 19, to see the comedy “The Late Night Catechism.” For more information, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.

Woman’s club to meet

The annual meeting for Westbrook Woman’s Club is set for Tuesday, April 21, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.

A roast turkey lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting convening at 1 p.m. For reservations, call Vicki Doughty at 854-5350 by Thursday, April 16.

Food addiction meeting April 25

Food Addicts in Recovery has a public information meeting set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Larrabee Village, 30 Liza Harmon Drive, Westbrook.

Regular meetings are held there every Saturday.

Wright $100G lottery winner

Charles Wright of Westbrook was one of the top 10 lottery winners in the state for March, according to a Maine Lottery announcement. Wright was one of five winners, who each took home $100,000.

Historical essay deadline nears

The Westbrook Historical Society deadline for submitting essays is Friday, May 1.

Typed essays, containing 500 words or less, are to record histories of people, places and events. Video or PowerPoint entries should be 20 minutes or less and include a hard copy. Each entry should include a name and contact information.

Categories for adults and students each have a $50 first prize and $25 for second place, in addition to a one-year society membership.
