ARUNDEL —Sheriff’s deputies say a Biddeford woman who was arrested on warrants Saturday night attempted to smash out a cruiser window with her head as they took her into custody.

Paula Gagne, 53, became combative with deputies and then tried to smash the window, according to York County Sheriff Bill King.

King, in a prepared statement Sunday, said deputies were checking on the woman after she allegedly told a passerby that family members were abusing her. Deputies were told that a woman was sitting in a snow bank in the 200 block of Mountain Road.

“Ms. Gagne had two outstanding warrants for her arrest and was uncooperative with the deputies and tried to flee,” said King.

Gagne was charged with refusing to submit to arrest by attempting to run away, unlawful possession of schedule Z drugs and violating conditions of release in addition to the two warrants that alleged she failed to appear on a prior charge of violating a protection order and then violating conditions of her release.

King said Gagne was taken to York County Jail in lieu of $1,800 cash bail She is scheduled to make a first appearance at Biddeford District Court sometime today.
