Hosts Eileen and Jim Hornor invite the public for an evening of music, food, drink and celebration in support of Spindleworks from 6-9 p.m. tonight at the Brunswick Inn.

The Spring Fling event will transform the inn into a walk through the history of the well-known art center with artwork, photos and ephemera spanning back to the mid-seventies when the doors of Spindleworks first opened.

“The Leopard Girls” featuring Hal Ahlers, Ben Hunsberger, Gary Lawless, Chris Simpson and Scott Woodruff, will provide the soundtrack to the timewarped evening.

The ticket price of $45 per person or $80 per couple will include appetizers provided by the Inn, one free drink from the cash bar and more. The purchase of a ticket for $100 includes a piece of original Spindleworks art.

The fundraiser comes at a crucial time for Spindleworks as the state considers a system redesign which, through a reallocation of funds, would reduce revenue to the program.

“The Brunswick community has supported Spindleworks over the years in so many ways from material donations and volunteering, to collaborations and advocacy,” said Liz McGhee, the program’s manager. “But we have come to a time when we have to ask even more help to enable us to meet the financial challenges ahead.”

If the Legislature passes the proposed changes to the funding structure, Spindleworks stands to see an almost 40 percent loss in revenue in the first 18 months. The Spring Fling is just one part of a larger effort to prepare for a very different landscape in the coming fiscal year.
