BRUNSWICK — J. Paul Bergeron, age 94, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Mid Coast Senior Health Center.

He was born in Manchester, NH, on Dec. 28, 1920, the son of Joseph O. and Marie Langlois Bergeron and was a 1939 graduate of Sanford High School.

He was a 1943 graduate of the Academy of Aeronautics in Elmhurst, L.I., New York (now the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology). During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

On Oct. 24, 1948, he married Virginia L. Brown and settled in Massachusetts. In 1957, he earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in engineering and management at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He was a Professional Registered Engineer and a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

Paul enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in aeronautical engineering. He worked in various engineering capacities at United Aircraft Corporation in Strafford, CT; Bethlehem Steel Company in Quincy, MA; General Electric Company in Lynn, MA and Schenectady, NY; Bath Iron Works, Maine; Litton Industries in Pascagoula, MS; and Todd Shipbuilding in Los Angeles, CA. Toward the end of his career, he returned with great pleasure to work at General Electric in Lynn, MA, from which he ultimately retired.

Mr. Bergeron designed and built his home in Brunswick with his wife and also built and expanded their beloved camp on Square Pond in Shapleigh, Maine. For over 60 years, Paul and his family have loved every summer moment at the lake, making timeless treasured memories that carried them through the winters. Paul and Virginia enjoyed travel in the continental United States and also made memorable trips to Hawaii and Canada. Paul loved time with his family, entertaining at the lake, and aeronautics, history, and science.

Surviving besides his wife Virginia of Brunswick are two daughters Suzanne K. Bergeron of Brunswick and Janine B. Talbot and her partner Elizabeth Johnson of Livermore, CO.

He was predeceased by a sister Aline Welborn.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 20 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Church-All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick.
