CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian court has acquitted ousted President Hosni Mubarak’s top security official of corruption charges.
The verdict handed down by Giza Criminal Court on Thursday cleared former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly of all pending charges. He was expected to be released soon.
El-Adly oversaw Egypt’s notorious police, known for its abuses and human rights violations.
The case is linked to his years in power during which he was accused of illegally amassing $25 million. He was acquitted of other corruption charges in earlier trials.
El-Adly was also acquitted last year of killing protesters during the 2011 popular uprising that forced Mubarak to step down.
